Working Together to prevent a wildfire disaster
RAMMB (Red Alert Montara, Moss Beach) is a grassroots community group dedicated to working together to prevent a wildfire disaster here in San Mateo County, such as the ones in Lahaina, Paradise, or the Palisades: the neglected Caltrans Right-of-Way (ROW) presents a significant risk..
Our mission is to ensure that the significant fire hazard posed by the Caltrans Devil’s Slide Bypass right of way (ROW) is fully mitigated before the spring of 2026.
At least 90% of the ROW lies within the CAL FIRE-designated Very High Fire Zone. Even worse, it is a major contributor to the Very High Fire Zone designation of adjacent neighborhoods. As a grassroots organization we are working with our elected officials at the state and local level, communicating with Caltrans directly, and engaging with our local community.

We Demand from Caltrans
- Immediately take responsibility for mitigating the extreme fire hazard it has created.
- Publicly release a detailed mitigation plan including a clear and actionable timeline.
- Complete full clearance of the right-of-way (ROW) no later than May 1st, 2026.
If the State does not act
- The Risk of Wildfire Ignition Remains Critical
The Right of Way continues to pose a serious fire threat, with the potential to destroy over 2,400 homes—and possibly devastate the entire Midcoast region. - Montara Water and Sanitary District Infrastructure Is in Danger
The Right of Way continues to pose a serious fire threat, with the potential to destroy over 2,400 homes—and possibly devastate the entire Midcoast region. - Our Only Escape Route Is at Risk
The fire hazard remains extremely high, and with California State Highway 1 as our sole evacuation route, the risk to human life is equally severe.
